Stream Rule

Users can include or exclude combinations of keywords and incident types. To do this, users can click the "Add Rule" button to create an individual rule. A popover will appear, allowing the user to enter a keyword for filtering or selecting an incident type from a list of existing incident types.

Stream Rule - Examples

Here are some examples of stream rules. For instance, "include airport" where "airport" is the keyword entered by the user. Alternatively, users can take advantage of incident types like "EVACUATION" or "WILDFIRE" to create rules such as "include Evacuation" or "exclude wildfire."

Grouping

We provide the ability to group multiple stream rules, enabling users to make more detailed filters. To achieve this, users can create multiple rule blocks and link them using the "and" "or" operators.

User Stories

One use case involves a user overseeing park operations. They want to receive alerts about forest fires so they can take immediate action. In this scenario, they would "include FIRE" (an incident type), "include WILDFIRE" (an incident type), or must "include forest" (a keyword). Then, they can create a new block by adding an "and" operator and specify "exclude DUMPSTER FIRE" (an incident type) since dumpster fires are not of interest to them.

Another use case pertains to a user who makes decisions to shut down a business operation area based on critical alerts like an "ACTIVE SHOOTER" or "BOMB SCARE". In this case, you could build a stream that alerts to urgent and developing incidents. Selecting “Top headlines”, and adding “Urgent and Developing” in the Emergency and Safety category indicates you only want high-severity alerts. You can further control the alerts shown in that stream by including specific incident types; adding ACTIVE SHOOTER, SHOOTING and BOMB SCARE allows you to create a very specific alert stream.
